PROJECT TITLE : Social and child protection for Ukrainian refugees in Montenegro

DESCRIPTION :
Overall objective: It aims at the the provision of adequate accommodation capacity for emergency response in cases where this is necessary, such as the emergency accommodation of unaccompanied children through the renovation of existing facilities in Podgorica.
Specific objective: Providing adequate accommodation for Ukrainian refugees with focus on vulnerable categories such as children, women, persons older than 67 years, children unaccompanied by parents or legal guardians as well as persons with disabilities, children with disabilities as well as adults.
Expected results:
As of 1999, Help has been providing support to vulnerable groups (minorities, refugees, women, youth) in Montenegro, in line with its mission “to enable people to take charge of their own life and live self-determined in dignity, peace and security.” Help has been recognized in Montenegro as well as internationally as a reliable and experienced partner in implementing humanitarian relief measures in support of the most vulnerable population groups.
Although Montenegro does not share borders with Ukraine more than 49,000 Ukrainians entered Montenegro after 24 February, and start of war in Ukraine. At the moment, 33.739 Ukrainians stay in the country which is 5,4% of the overall population of Montenegro. While in absolute figures the numbers are relatively low, it must be taken into consideration that Montenegro has a population of only 628.276. With the damages done to Ukraine’s infrastructure returns to Ukraine have literally become impossible and numbers of refugees arriving are slated to increase even further.
Most people from Ukraine are present in the coastal cities: Budva, Bar, Herceg Novi, Kotor, Tivat, and in the capital Podgorica.
